Nissan offering Midnight Edition Juke for 2013
Nissan has kind of made polarizing
design language its thing. From the Cube to the Leaf to the Quest, the company's stylists
seem entirely disinterested in bowing to convention unless they're crafting a
model for the milquetoast middle of the market. The Juke is no exception to this
rule, a dynamite little firecracker of a crossover but one that from certain
angles looks like it comes from the factory pre-crashed. And we're not so sure
that a new appearance package offered for the 2013 model year helps
much.
Called the Midnight Edition, the $1,200 option bundles a new
17-inch wheel design with a roof spoiler and mirror caps, all in black. It goes
on sale in September, and is available across the model lineup.

2013 Nissan JUKE Features New Midnight
Edition Package
FRANKLIN, Tenn. ? In its first two years of
production, the highly innovative Nissan JUKE has been hard to ignore. Its
aggressive styling has been matched only by its dynamic performance ? driven by
its standard 188-horsepower 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG™) Turbo,
16-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy inline 4-cylinder and available advanced torque
vectoring AWD system. So it might come as a surprise that Nissan is giving JUKE
a slightly more stealthy appearance with a new accessory grouping called the
JUKE Midnight Edition.
Available as a Nissan accessory package on all
2013 JUKE S, SV and SL models, the Midnight Edition features unique 17-inch
Black Wheels, a Sapphire Black rear roof spoiler, and Sapphire Black mirror
caps. It is available at Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price* (MSRP) of $1,200
USD, a savings of $500 USD** over the cost of items if purchased
separately.
"The Midnight Edition JUKE stands out by its subtlety," said
Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan
North America, Inc. "The combination of black-on-black-on-black wheels, spoiler
and mirrors gives JUKE a dramatic new look, which we think enhances its already
bold styling. We expect it to be a very popular addition to the JUKE lineup for
2013."
Other enhancements to the 2013 JUKE include:
The addition
of a RearView Monitor to the Navigation Package on SV models
A revised
Rockford Fosgate ecoPUNCH™ audio system is added to the SV Navigation Package
and is standard on SL models
And three new colors, Atomic Gold, Brilliant
Silver and Pearl White, join the JUKE color palette
The 2013 Nissan JUKE
with the new Midnight Edition will be available at Nissan dealers nationwide
beginning in September.

JUKE, now in its third year, continues to offer bold styling, acclaimed levels
of performance and an available advanced torque vectoring AWD system with
performance technology often reserved for premium vehicles.

splits torque up to 50:50 between the front and rear wheels and can also can
split torque from side-to-side across the rear axle. When cornering, the system
helps reduce understeer and enhance the vehicle's cornering feel.
The

instrument panel and a unique center console inspired by a motorcycle fuel tank
and finished in high-gloss paint. An innovative Integrated Control (I-CON)

Nissan Americas today announced it will add production of
the all-new 2013 Nissan Sentra compact car to its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant
beginning in the fourth quarter of 2012. The addition of Sentra
production, along with the planned November shift of the Frontier pickup truck
and Xterra SUV to Canton from Nissan's operations in Smyrna, Tenn., will create
1,000 jobs, growing Canton's workforce to more than 4,500 strong.
2013 Nissan Altima is HOT!!
The first 2013 Altima rolled off the assembly line in
Canton, Miss., on Wednesday, June 6. The first 2013 Altima built in
Smyrna, Tenn., came a few weeks earlier. Nissan's Altima is in such high
demand it is made at two different locations, both in Smyrna and Canton.
Nissan expects the demand to soar higher than every with the new 2013 Altima
model. "Altima is our highest volume vehicle. And as we look to the future
we are going to look to expand to ship from 40 countries to maybe closer to 100
countries for this vehicle," said Nissan's Director of Export Operations
Jerry Brickett.
Nissan has an aggressive goal to triple the number of exported Altimas in the
next two to three years.
Brickett said the biggest opportunity for growth
is in Mexico, Canada and the Middle East. "For us we have the right product at the right time for those growing
markets, and it will really help to grow the brand recognition with a strong
product like Altima", said Brickett. In order for Nissan to make enough Altimas to meet export goals, crews in both
Smyrna and Canton will ramp up production. "In my over 25 years of experience with Nissan, of all the launches I've
seen, I don't know that I've ever seen a vehicle that I'm as excited about as I
am this Altima. It really puts Nissan in a position to grow in this
country and really be pushing for the top spot in the midsize sedan
market," said Canton's vice president of manufacturing Dan Bednarzyk.
The Altima is always Nissan's number one seller, and the company is expecting
even higher than normal sales results with the 2013 model. Nissan plans
to make more than 300,000 Altimas in the next year to meet the demand.
"Already our demand this year for the new Altima is higher than what we
can supply, so we know the potential is there," said Brickett. Brickett is betting the Altima will get even bigger results for Nissan in the
coming years. "It could truly be a global brand for Nissan," said Brickett.
Holland Michigan welcomes the Electric Car!
The advanced energy storage industry has invested heavily in
Holland. But will Holland residents invest in advanced energy storage,
especially electric vehicles?
Many signs say they will.
Johnson Conrtols during May's Tulip Time Festival sponsored what might have
been the nation's first parade where all vehicles towing parade floats were
hybrid or electric.
Area electricians are learning to install charges in people's garages.
Electric vehicles are on-site at three different area car dealerships.
Although the number of electric vehicle users in the Holland area is unknown,
use of electric vehicle charging stations has ramped up in the first year they
have been installed. Visual local support of industry will continue to be important, said Holland
Mayor Kurt Dykstra.
"Our commitment as a city and community to this emerging industry is more
like a marathon than a sprint," he said. "No one expects
transformation overnight. But we know that, in time, our investment in
this emerging battery technology and the infrastructure that supports it will
pay great dividends."
In the year since the electric vehicle charging stations went up in Holland,
electric vehicles charged for 761 hours, according to the Holland Board of
Public Works.
Although that might not seem like much, a month-to-month graph shows a healthy
curve upward in its usage. More than 200 of the 761 hours were logged
from the start of April through the second week of May 2012.
Nick Grigsby. a master electrician with a Me. Electric franchise based in
Allegan, recently underwent safety training to learn how to install electric
vehicle charges in car dealerships and resident's garages.
"There hasn't been a lot of standardization (of how charging stations are
installed) until now, and that's the big push," Grigsby said. Mr.
Electric is urging franchises to get ahead of the curve. "2013 is
supposed to be a very large boom, and they wanted us as a Mr. Electric
franchise to be ahead of that boom."
Mr. Electric's corporate group specifically is optimistic about Ottawa
County. The company looks at home prices to determine if there's a market
for electric vehicles in a given area, Grigsby said.
"I think your demo-graphic here fits the electric vehicle," he said.
Industry analyst Dave Hurst of the Boulder, Colo.- based Pike Research firm
said two kinds pf people are likely to buy electric vehicles: 1) True believers
in green technology who already are interested in buying, and 2) Younger and
more affluent customers.
"We do see a lot of cross-over, particularly for the Volt, from the luxury
market," Hurst said.
Grisby has worked for both kinds of customers. "Basically, it's a more affluent customer," he said. "But
I have actually installed two charges for a more common customer. Less
affluent customers are acting on the fact that they say the want to be more
green, he said.
The Elhart Nissan dealership recently received a demo model of the all-electric
Nissan Leaf and plans to deliver its first leased vehicle to customer in two
weeks.
"The people that want it, they know this has been a long time
coming," said sales manager Tait Fernstrum. "They were here a
year and half ago when the talk first started."
